Typically it takes 7 seven years to become a lawyer.
Four Steps to Become Lawyer:
- Complete your 14 years education
- Taking LAST (law school admission test)
- Complete J.D degree
- Taking a state bar examination
Complete 14 Year’s Education:
To become a lawyer first step is to complete your 14 years education. Become eligible to get admission in law school.
The next step to becoming a lawyer is to give the LAST law school admission test. Some law school makes it primary for admission or some schools authorities don’t take this test. LAST, have its own criteria for eligibility to get admission to law school.
Complete J.D Degree:
After taking admission to LAST you should complete a Juris Doctor degree. Complete Juris degree before sitting state bar.
Taking State Bar Examination:
The next step is to write a bar in your state. Your bar will take your test from the LLB syllabus. You will have to pass your exam in a given percentage. Your license will be issued on this bar result.
While a J.D degree is a primary law degree. But it is not an academic option for prospective lawyers. Prospective lawyers may take state bar after this one-year degrees:
- Master of Law (L.L.M)
- Doctor of juridical science (S.J.D)
